The Country Guesthouse by Robyn Carr

This is the 5th and last book in the Sullivan’s Crossing series.

Synopsis

Hannah’s life takes an unexpected turn. When her best friend Erin dies, she becomes guardian to her 5 year old son Noah. With no experience with motherhood, Hannah is terrified that she will not make a good mother for Noah. She broke up with her fiance Wyatt after she found him cheating on her with her assistant. She feels her and Noah ned to get to know each other. Her and Noah go on a getaway and rent a country house on a lake in Colorado.

When they get there they are greeted by Owen the handsome owner who promises to stay out their way. But his great dane Romeo has other ideas; Noah and Romeo bond instantly. Hannah is learning to become a mother and Owen is recovering from his own grief, they learn they can help each other.  Days swimming and fishing in the lake and nights spent making dinner and relaxing on the porch make it so Hannah and Noah never want to leave. Hannah and Owen grow closer and closer making leaving a painful prospect. Never fear, love finds a way!

Life throws more challenges at them. Noah’s grandmother comes to town to try and get custody of the grandson she has never met before. Characters from past stories pop in, but I think The Country Guesthouse can be read as a standalone since this is very much Hannah, Owen and Noah’s story.

My Review

I did enjoy this book. I loved the storyline of Hannah having to raise her friend’s son and realizing that she loves him as if he was her very own. Owen is familiar with heartbreak and is living his life solo until he meets Hannah and starts to bond with both of them. One of my favorite parts of this book is when she leaves and Owen realizes that he didn’t want her to leave but didn’t actually tell her. He calls her the next town over and asks her to wait for him. He tells her that he doesn’t want her to leave and he wants her and Noah to stay with him for the summer and start a life together.

She decides to stay and the summer and see how it goes. I love the bond that Owen has with Hannah and Noah. He knows heart ache all too well and was content in his life until he met Hannah.

As usual Robynn Carr pulls you into the story. You quickly connect with the characters and find yourself desperate to see how the story turns out. This is not my favorite book of the series but it is a nice addition to the series.
