swedish meatball recipe

I love Swedish meatballs. I have tried the frozen ones and they are just ok. But this recipe is to die for. The sauce is so savory and yummy.

For the Sauce:

6 tablespoons of butter

1/3 cup of flour

14.5 oz chicken broth

1 beef bouillon cube

1 cup heavy cream

3/4 cup sour cream

1 Tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon cider vinegar

1 tablespoon sugar

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1-2 teaspoons parsley (for the end)

3 Tablespoons of cornstarch/ 3 Tablespoons of water (to thicken)

salt to taste

Directions:

  • melt butter and add flour to the butter and whisk well
  • cook over med-low heat until mixture is slightly darker
  • Whisk often
  • Add beef broth, chicken broth, heavy cream, sour cream, soy sauce, worcestershire sauce, cider vinegar, sugar and all spices (except the parsley)
  • salt to taste
  • bring to boil over medium heat then reduce heat to low
  • add meatballs (you can make your own or add frozen meatballs- I used the frozen meatballs)
  • I used a 2lb bag
  • stirring often until gravy is thickened and meatballs are heated through
  • mix 3 tablespoons of cornstarch with 3 tablespoons of water and add slowly to the mixture (you can add more or less; depends on the consistency that you want)
  • add parsley and stir
  • serve over egg noodles
