Stuffed Bagel Bites

Do you love everything bagels? This is a healthy recipe for bagel bites. These bites are stuffed with cream cheese. They are similar to the bantam bagels they used to have at starbucks (they no longer sell them). This recipe only has a few ingredients and is easy to make. This is a healthier version and is made with whole wheat flour. This is a perfect on the go breakfast. These bagel are delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup plain greek yogurt
  • 4oz (1/2 brick) reduced-fat cream cheese
  • 1 egg white (beaten with 1 Tbsp water)
  • 2 Tbsp everything bagel seasoning

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 375, spray baking sheet with pam
  • Add flour, baking powder and salt to mixing bowl. mix.
  • Add yogurt. mix.
  • knead dough with your hands for 4 to 5 minutes or until dough is smooth
  • Dust with flour. set aside.
  • cut 1/2 block of cream cheese into 8 equal pieces
  • Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces; using flour, roll each piece into a 3 inch circle
  • put a piece of cream cheese in it and mold the dough around it. Pinch the edge to seal the cream cheese in
  • roll into a sphere shape
  • beat the egg with water
  • dip the top of each mixture into the egg mixture
  • dip into everything bagel seasoning
  • place seasoning side up on baking sheet
  • bake for 18-22 mins, until golden brown

Notes:

  • pinch the dough tightly so it doesn’t open up during baking
  • you can substitute with white flour
  • This recipe will make 8 bagel bites

Creativity

Be creative with the recipe.

  • add flavored cream cheese such as strawberry or blueberry
  • mix green onions in with the cream cheese
  • add some jam or jelly to the cream cheese
  • instead of everything seasoning you can use poppy seeds or sesame seeds

  • After they cool they should be kept in the fridge
  • They can be frozen; put in a ziplock bag and can be stored for about one month
  • you can make the dough ahead of time; keep it stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 days

Easy tips

  • If the cough gets “sticky” just add some additional flour
  • If there are issues sealing the bites you can add a little bit of water and rub it across the seams to seal it
