Split Pea Soup
Are you looking for an easy, delicious Split Pea soup recipe for the crockpot? Then look no further! This recipe is easy to make and tastes scrumptious. Split pea soup is healthy and good for you. It is also high in Magnesium and potassium. This soup is hearty, filling, so flavorful, and yes, healthy! In addition to the vegetables and chicken broth, split peas are high in protein and fiber, making them very nutritional.
Ingredients
2 (32oz) containers of chicken broth (I use reduced sodium)
3 cups of chopped ham (I use ham steaks)
1 bag of dried split peas
2 medium or 1 large onion chopped
1 cup of chopped carrots
2 tablespoons of minced garlic
1 cup of chopped celery
3 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
Directions
- Combine split peas, ham, onions, carrots, celery, garlic, chicken broth, pepper, salt and thyme in a crockpot. Stir to combine all the ingredients together
- Cover, cook on high for 4 to 5 hours (or low for 7 to 8 hours) or until split peas are completely soft
- If you like your soup thicker you can add less chicken broth
