Synopsis
Kenna Rowan is 26 years old and was just released from prison after causing the death of her boyfriend, Scotty, in a drunk driving incident five years earlier. She returns to town to hopefully regain custody of her and Scotty’s daughter. Their daughter, Diem, is being raised by Scotty’s parents.
However, Scotty’s parents are still angry and heartbroken over the loss of their son. Kenna winds up meeting a guy Ledger, who turns out to be Scotty’s best friend. Ledger is helping raise her daughter, Diem.
Kenna and Ledger meet at a bar and immediately sparks fly. After Ledger finds out who Kenna is he is not sure how to feel. He feels bad for Kenna; who just wants her daughter back after serving time for her crime. He feels bad for Scotty’s parents who are raising Diem and want nothing to do with Kenna. Ledger is starting to have feelings for his best friend’s girlfriend, and he doesn’t know what to do.
Kenna must find a way to make amends with Scotty’s parents, in hopes of having a relationship with her daughter. She is trying to deal with the feelings she has for Ledger.
My Opinion
Kenna’s actions make her easy to hate. She is driving the car that ultimately kills her boyfriend. She leaves him for dead without getting help. But throughout the book Kenna writes letters to Scotty, pouring her heart out to him. It gives you a glimpse into what she feeling and her overwhelming desire to see her daughter since giving birth.
The love story takes a back seat to the real story of morality and forgiveness. How you forgive someone who killed your child? Kenna is dealing with the fact that Scotty’s parents do not want her in her daughter’s life.
This book was different it wasn’t your typical love story. Kenna isn’t looking for the love of a man. She did find the perfect man Scotty, and then he died. Her ultimate dream is to reunited with her daughter. She did find love again with Ledger. But how can that relationship work? Ledger is conflicted about his feeling for Kenna and his love for Diem. Can this story have a happy ending?
