Macaroni and Cheese
Macaroni and Cheese
This is a crowd pleaser in my household. It is easy to make and absolutely delicious. There is nothing like homemade mac and cheese.
This recipe is a comfort food with a buttered bread crumb topping. It is easy to make the cheese sauce from scratch on the stove top. Serve with chicken or any type of meat. Or alongside a salad for a meatless dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 lb elbow macaroni
- 5 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 4 cups of milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 24 slices of American cheese
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- cook elbow macaroni as per directions on the box
- In saucepan melt butter, then add flour and whisk together over low heat
- add milk, heavy cream, garlic and pepper, mix together
- when it starts to boil, slowly add in the cheese (break the cheese into small pieces)
- keep mixing so it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan
- keep mixing until all the cheese is melted
- drain macaroni and put in a large mixing bowl
- add the cheese to the macaroni and mix together
- pour into a 13×9 baking dish
- sprinkle the breadcrumbs on the top
- add 2 tbsp butter (sliced) and put pieces on top of bread crumbs
- sprinkle paprika on top of breadcrumbs and butter
- cook in oven for about 30 minutes (when the cheese starts to bubble)
- let cool for a few minutes and then serve
