Living With An ADHD Child
Living With An ADHD Child
Are you trying to live a happy normal life with an ADHD child ??
Well I am…..it is difficult. My son was diagnosed with ADHD at 5 years old. He is currently 9 years old. He has been on medication since Kindergarten. Every single day is a struggle. He struggles in school and just has no drive to do anything. One thing can set him off and it can ruin our entire day. We have a hard time as a married couple going out for long periods of time because his behavior is crazy and erratic at night time and I don’t want anyone else to have to deal with it. He is moody and impulsive sometimes. The medication definitely helps but it is not an automatic fix. Does anyone else have daily struggles ??
Anyone else’s ADHD child crazy and wild after their meds wear off??
My son is on Jornay PM and he takes it at 7pm. This particular medication stays in the body for 12 hours before it starts to work, making mornings better. For us mornings were a big struggle, alot of screaming and yelling. Now mornings are definitely better but when his medication wears off (which usually is around 5-6pm) he is hyper, impulsive, non-stop talking and interrupting. Some days are really rough. Anyone else have similar experiences ??
My son also takes Intuniv daily to help with his impulsivity. This medication is a non-stimulant. It seems to be helping. It does make it a little bit moody.
