It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
This is my first time reading a book by Colleen Hoover and I can say I was pleasantly surprised. I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. The book goes back and forth from the present time to her reading a journal about her past. Colleen Hoover is my new favorite author and I cannot wait to read her other books.
Synposis
Lilly had a rough life in Maine, she grew up in an abusive household. After watching her mother suffer from abuse for years at the hand of her father, she tells herself that she’ll never allow any man to treat her that way. She graduated from college and moved to Boston to open up her own business. While there she meets and falls for Ryle, a thriving neurosurgeon who is determined to be the best in his field.
To her it seems too good to be true. Ryle is assertive, stubborn and arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. He is initially looking for a one-night stand and she is not that type of girl. Lily sees him in scrubs and can’t get him out of her head. Though the two have an immediate connection and sparks fly, the two decided to take their time getting to know one another.
As Lily’s and Ryle’s relationship pushes forward she finds herself looking back at those entries and thoughts of her first love Atlas resurface. Atlas was the homeless boy who found his way into the abandoned house next door. Atlas and Lily as teens formed an unlikely friendship. Sharing everything and having a bond that no one around them seemed to understand. Then she accidentally runs into Atlas years later, while dating Ryle, and sparks fly. But her relationship with Ryle isn’t all that people think it is.
My review
The story is an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. I had a hard time putting this book down. I loved her emotional connection to Atlas that never went away. They helped each other through some rough times. This book will make you fall in love, rip your heart out and force you to reconsider your preconceived ideas about abuse. Lily grows into a strong and independent woman, leaving behind the horrors of her childhood…Or so she thinks. Despite everything she’s promised herself, Lily finds herself in an abusive relationship. The behavior and cycle is so insidious that you almost can’t believe what is happening.
I am in awe of Lily. Her strength and conviction blew me away. I don’t think I would’ve been strong enough to do what she did. She was an amazing character.
The writers importance of the book
Finding out how important this book was for her to write will hit you hard, but I hope she also knows how important it is as a reader to read. Knowing where an author gets their ideas from can change your whole outlook on a book, and this one… this one broke me.
This was a beautiful and heartbreaking book. I recommend it to everyone. It is a must read. There a second book; It Starts with Us. I have just started reading this one and will post a review when I have completed it.
