Should you have your ADHD child retested?
My son was diagnosed with ADHD at 5. He had just finished Pre K. Currently he is 9 years old and is in 4th grade. He still is hyper, impulsive and has difficulty focusing at times. He has been on medication since age 5. We have switched his medication a few times. But he has been on this current medication for the past year. It works well during the day but after 5-6pm it is rough.
He still is struggling in school. Doing work after school is a struggle to get him to sit down and focus and actually do work. I spoke with his pediatrician and we decided to make an appointment with a developmental and behavioral pediatrician and have him re-evaluated for ADHD. I just want to make sure the diagnosis he has is accurate, since he was diagnosed over 4 years ago.
Many children with ADHD can have other disorders as well such as, anxiety, depression, ODD and mood disorders. There was a year wait for an appointment. I literally got a phone call yesterday and have an appointment the end of the month. I will update you after the appointment !!
