History of Easter
Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the New Testament of the Bible, the event is said to have occurred three days after Jesus was crucified by the Romans and died in roughly 30 A.D. The holiday concludes the “Passion of Christ,” a series of events and holidays that begins with Lent (which is a 40 day period of sacrifice, fasting and prayer). It ends with Holy Week. Which includes Holy Thursday (the celebration of Jesus’ Last Supper with his 12 Apostles). Good Friday (on which Jesus’ crucifixion is observed) and Easter Sunday.
Easter this years falls on Sunday April 9th. Each year Easter falls on a Sunday but a different date each year. Easter always falls on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25. It typically falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the spring equinox.
Easter Tradition
Our traditions have changed over the years. When I was little I went with my father and his family to an Italian restaurant. We would eat great food and enjoy the company of our relatives. All the adults would pass out goody bags to the kids for Easter.
After I got married and had kids we still attended the annual Easter celebration. This changed in 2019, when my mother passed away from cancer. Then in 2020, we moved out of state to SC.
Our traditions in SC is the kids wake up look for their Easter baskets and Easter eggs. We have breakfast and attend church services as a family. Our usual Easter meal is Ham with sweet potatoes and the fixings. We enjoy the day as a family.
