The Notebook
In 1940s South Carolina, mill worker Noah Calhoun and rich girl Allie are desperately in love. But her parents don’t approve of Noah’s poor family. Allie’s parents take her away and Noah goes off to serve in World War II. It seems to mark the end of their love affair. After waiting for Noah to write her for several years, Allie meets and gets engaged to a handsome young soldier named Lon. But when Noah returns to their small town years later, on the cusp of Allie’s marriage, it soon becomes clear that their romance is anything but over. Allie must choose between her fiance and her first love.
This is my #1 pick for a romance movie. The chemistry that Noah and Allie has is so strong. They still felt the connection years later. My favorite part is when it starts raining while they are on the boat. When they get off the boat and asks him why he never wrote to her. I absolutely loved the ending.
Sweet Home Alabama
New York fashion designer Melanie suddenly finds herself engaged to the city’s most eligible bachelor Andrew. But Melanie’s past holds many secrets, including Jake, the redneck husband she married in high school, who refuses to divorce her. Bound and determined to end their relationship once and for all, Melanie sneaks back home to Alabama to confront her past, only to discover that you can take the girl out of the South, but you can’t take the South out of the girl. Do you ever forget your first love?
I loved this movie. In the beginning I thought she belonged in NY and married to her handsome bachelor. But then she goes back to her home town in Alabama to try and get her husband, who she hasn’t seen in years to give her a divorce. Her home life in Alabama starts to tug at her heart strings and maybe the life and husband in NY are not what she really wants.
Pretty Woman
A prostitute and a wealthy businessman fall hard for one another, forming an unlikely pair. While on a business trip in L.A., Edward who makes a living buying and breaking up companies, picks up a hooker, Vivian. Edward has just broken up with his girlfriend earlier that day. He is intrigued by the fact that she knows about cars. After Edward hires Vivian to stay with him for the weekend, the two get closer. Only to discover there are significant hurdles to overcome as they try to bridge the gap between their very different worlds.
This is an iconic movie starring heart throb Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. This movie starts out with Edward looking for directions and Vivian offering to show him in person. He invites her upstairs for the night. He was looking more for companionship than for sex. Vivian is looking for money. He winds up asking her to stay the week with him. The two start to fall for each other. But can a rich business man fall in love with a prostitute?
50 Shades of Grey
50 Shades of Grey: When college senior Anastasia Steele steps in for her sick roommate to interview prominent businessman Christian Grey for their campus paper, little does she realize the path her life will take. When she becomes face to face with Christian she becomes intimidated by his presence. There is immediate chemistry between the two of them. Though sexually inexperienced, Ana plunges headlong into an affair — and learns that Christian’s true sexual proclivities push the boundaries of pain and pleasure.
I enjoyed this movie very much. I love the beginning when they first meet, and she is clumsy and intimated by Christian who is a hot billionaire with a heart of ice. He is instantly drawn to naive Ana, who is inexperienced. He has a very intimate sexual past that he decided he wants to bring Ana into. I loved the chemistry between them and the love he feels for her. He comes across as arrogant and cold hearted; but the way he loves her shows he does have a softer side. But can she live with what’s in his “game room”. If you love this one movie then you have watch the next two movies, Freed and Darker.

50 First Dates
Henry Roth meets Lucy in a diner and has an instant attraction to her. But when he meets her the next day, she does not recognize him. He learns the truth about his new love interest. She suffers from memory loss. She doesn’t remember anything from the day before, her memory “resets “every night. So, every morning he has to “woo” her all over again. Her friends and family are very protective over her, and he has to prove to them that he really does love Lucy.
This movie is perfect for a Valentine’s Day flick. This is a lighthearted romantic comedy. I loved the fact that he felt such a connection to her that he wanted to make her fall in love with him each day. I love the ending when they are on the boat. (I won’t give away any spoilers 😉)
Ghost
Sam Wheat is a banker, Molly Jensen is an artist, and the two are madly in love. However, when Sam is murdered by a friend and corrupt business partner Carl Bruner over a shady business deal, he is left to roam the earth as a powerless spirit. When he learns of Carl’s betrayal, Sam must seek the help of psychic Oda Mae Brown to set things right and protect Molly from Carl and his goons.
This movie is great. I love the scenes with Oda Mae and Sam when they are in the bank. Oda Mae kept telling her Sam was there and talking to her; but she didn’t believe until toward the end.
